02. “9 images”
Come closer and look.

I collected 9 different printable papers, took one photograph of each, and printed the image of the paper onto the exact same paper, and presented them together on a wall.

“Thing refers back to itself -- Meta” is the concept.

03. “deja vu”
An experimental, time-based work about deja vu.

This is a project I did in University when I studied photography. The project has to be photobased, and we had to complete 2 assignments utilizing the same theme, and I choose “deja vu”.

︎︎︎ Assignment #1:
In order to make my audience actually feel the idea of “Deja Vu” instead of showing it in metaphorical way (for example, a cut grapefruit is a metaphor of femalism loll), I needed time and locations. My target audience was my classmates, we studied at the same buidling, which meant that we walk in the same hallways, we use the same washrooms, classrooms, etc... all the time.

I released and put my photographs onto various locations throughout the school a week before the assignment’s critique, giving my audience time to notice there are some small photographs on the washroom’s door, in the corner of the printing room, in the garbage bin of the photo cage...

On the other side, what if some audiences they didn’t notice the small images around them? I created “Spot the Difference” game with those images, my audiences need to spot the objects differences between 5 images on the wall that were covered by translucent papers with numbers on top.

By telling them #2 has 2 differences compare with #1, #3 has 3 differences compare with #2, and so on.

#1
#2

#3
#4

#5

How they look like on wall, audiences need to flip the translucent paper on top to reveal the image. ︎︎︎

Assignment #1 reflection:

︎︎︎  1. When I was doing my critique, one of my classmate/audience said “Wait, I have seen this before”, I was screaming inside because it worked, I created deja vu feeling for her.

︎︎︎ 2. Also, the game worked very well by seeing audiences going back and forth to see the differences to make sure they have spotted all of them. After I told them #1 and #5 are the same images, the feeling of “oh, I have seen it before, haven’t I?” is there.

︎︎︎Assignment #2:

Right after my critique for assignment #1, I started brainstorming assignment #2.

And, the idea sparks in my mind at the right time, or it won’t work.

I decided to do a replica of the assignment #1 critique. So, I made an Instagram account to document Assignment #1 critique day︎︎︎

I will do the exact set up for Assignment #2 critique.

For the images, I scanned the photographs with the paper on top from Assignment #1, and printed them out again.

I also printed out the name of the Instagram account, so they could check and see.

Due to the lack of documentation of the second critique, I can’t show it to you guys, but it went well, my audience loved it.

Assignment #2 reflection:

︎︎︎ 1. As conceptual artist, documentation is really really important. I sincerly wish that I had the foresight to take some photos of my work, but I didn’t...

︎︎︎ 2. Don’t “fool” your audience twice, my classmates/audience might feel offended, I have recieved “Lina, not again, no...” but I know that they love me.

04. “Cove Museum”
Welcome, welcome :)

What happens in the Cove Museum??

I decided to go pick up some objects in the garbage bin of OCAD’s wood studio, and took pictures of each object.

After that, I selected paragraphs from different articles for each object, and made a museum catalog,

Objects in installation with number beside that connect with the catalog. ︎︎︎
